Trying to decide exactly where you want to invest your money may seem overwhelming. The good news is that you aren’t on your own. While the answer will ultimately be different for everyone, there are tools and resources on RBC Direct Investing to help you determine the right answer for you.

Many people come into direct investing with an idea or an interest, such as an industry they know well or a company they believe is positioned for growth. On the platform, investors can refine their idea further. They can use screeners (find them under ‘Research’ > ‘Screeners’) to narrow their search, based on criteria such as price or industry or dividend. This feature shows you what’s available and allows you to compare and contrast your options. Additional research resources on the platform, such as comprehensive quotes pages (search with company name/ticker in ‘Search for symbol or keyword’ box), mean investors can dive in even deeper.

You could also consider opening a practice account (open a new one – Under ‘Profile’ > ‘Account Management’ > ‘Open a Practice Account’). This feature allows you to test your investment strategy before you commit money—that can come when you’re ready.

In this episode of Inspired Investor Talk, we learn more about generating ideas with Karen Chung, Director, Investor Centres at RBC Direct Investing.
