Sharpen Your Investing Skills with a Practice Account

Practice Accounts, free to open and use for all RBC Direct Investing and RBC Online Banking clients, are a zero-risk way to test out some investment strategies and learn how to place buy and sell orders in the online investing site.

Think of a Practice Account as your online investing test drive. Each Practice Account comes with $100,000 in practice money and gives you access to many of the online tools you'd use to find and manage your real investments. That means you can experience investing using the same order entry screens you would use for actual trades, except there's no risk and you can start over any time you like.

What Can You Do With Your Practice Accounts?

  • Open multiple types of accounts, including cash, margin and RRSP
  • Sharpen skills like placing buy or sell orders for stocks, ETFs or mutual funds
  • Explore more advanced strategies like options trading
  • Create and analyze a practice portfolio and track its performance over time

Transactions and Limitations

In a Practice Account, you can perform almost all of the same transactions that you can do in a real account. However, there are a few limitations.
